Run for Black Lives: SNMA/LMIG Virtual 5K Race

The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) chapter of Brown University, in collaboration with the Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group (LMIG), would like to invite you to participate in our Run for Black Lives: SNMA/LMIG Virtual 5K Race! This event was created to increase the awareness of the heightened consciousness around systemic racism, racial disparities during the COVID-19 pandemic, and police brutality against Black individuals.

Before 5K Weekend: After registration, your order will be processed and you will receive an email from snma5kevent@gmail.com containing a Google Form, which will be required to confirm your registration as well as shirt size. If you are a local participant, we will be handing out race packets on the following dates: November 10th-12th outside of Warren Alpert Medical School (222 Richmond St, Providence, RI 02903), times TBA. To pick up race packets we ask that you wear a mask and follow safety precautions outlined in Rhode Island Guidelines. If you are not local, please place your address on the Google Form and we will send race packets.

As a part of your registration fee, you will receive a 5K race package that includes a t-shirt, personalized e-bib, and business promotions/advertisements in support of Black-owned businesses. Additionally, registration fees will be donated to Higher Ground International (http://www.highergroundintl.org/our-work), a non-profit organization that provides resources and enrichment programs for West African refugees living in Providence, RI.

5K Weekend: On your mark. Get set. Go! For the 5K weekend, participants should be prepared to self-time as they run/walk a 5K (3.1mi) route of their choosing between Friday, November 13th and Sunday, November 15th. Times can be submitted by uploading an image or screenshot and sending it to snma5kevent@gmail.com. Participants MUST continuously run/walk the 5K for the time to be official/accurate. The 5K race should not be completed over multiple days or in multiple stages. We also encourage participants to submit race photos to the email listed above as well as the SNMA Instagram @snmabrown (DM or tag). Please contact us if you have any questions.

We look forward to your participation and contribution as we continue to bring awareness to the racism, brutality and inequities that continue to negatively impact the Black community.
